Over the past few months, Redtail employees have enjoyed volunteering at Front Street Animal Shelter in honor of various national pet holidays. These holidays have been created both to support the care of pets as well as to raise awareness of the mistreatment of animals, all while advocating the important part each of us can play in animal rescue.

This month, we decided to volunteer in honor of “Adopt a Shelter Pet Day”. Animal rescue is a topic we are extremely passionate about and we will continue to encourage our team and those around us to adopt and foster pets if their circumstances allow. We care so deeply for our own pups & pets and wanted to find a way to share our love with the four legged friends that are still waiting to be accepted into their forever homes.

If you’re looking to grow your family, consider visiting a shelter in your area! You may stumble upon a new best friend and will potentially be saving a life!

Meet Sophie, the latest in a long line of pups to be fostered by Redtail employees (in this case, Nikki)! Don’t let the first few poses fool ya, though. She wants to hop about and play her way into your household!

Sophie knows commands such as “sit”, “lay down” and “stay”. “Stay” is not her favorite though, as she’d prefer shadowing you as your new best friend rather than just remaining in one place looking gorgeous. She is leash trained, does great with other dogs and children, and remains calm in an office environment, even with our crazy foam rocket wars. She is quite the snuggle bug and would love to be a member of your family!

This is Sebastian, a.k.a. Doggy Dog! He’s the first dog to be fostered by a ‘Tailer in our Atlanta East Coast HQ.

For a puppy just under nine months old, he really is calm and friendly to strangers (though once he’s comfortable with you, he becomes energetic and playful). We are currently training him not to be a jumper in those instances. Sebastian is great with kids, and gets along well with other pets too! He loves to cuddle and play. He’s also potty trained and will squeal to let you know when he needs to go outside. Sebastian only eats soft foods currently.

He’s teething and has many toys to choose from. He’s displayed no signs of food aggression. In fact he typically sits before receiving his food.

Sebastian loves his bed and is crate-trainable – he doesn’t mind being in there with the door open, but does prefer to have someone next to him until he falls asleep. He’s also chillaxed during bath time.

Paul M., who is currently fostering Doggy Dog, takes him to the Atlanta office to work, where the pup is really relaxed. Paul did say that the car rides to and from work are Sebastian’s favorite thing!

For months, Redtail employee David Sipe and his girlfriend Angela had been playing around with the idea of bringing another member into their family while their kids are still young. They knew what kind of dog they wanted: at least a year old, female, medium-sized, energetic but not overwhelmingly so . . . the desired traits list went on from there.

On their visit to Front Street Animal Shelter, they gave their requirements list to the Foster Coordinator. After a walk through the aisles of noisy kennels, David and Angela came upon Roscoe (whose name at the time was Prince). He was the antithesis of their imagined “perfect dog” – he wasn’t any of their desired breeds, he (you’ve probably gathered from our choice of pronouns) was a boy, and he seemed a bit wilder than what they thought they were prepared for.

Still, they brought him out to the play area and watched as he chased tennis balls and leaves and barked at invisible “intruders”. After some playful interaction with this pup, they knew they couldn’t put him back in the kennel and decided to take him home to see if he might adjust to their environment. He was a complete surprise to their kids as they arrived home from school!

It has now been a few months and Roscoe is everything their life needed and so much more. He is such a fun bundle of energy and has so much love for his family – almost as much as they do for him. Out of all the silly things he does, the entire family agrees that their favorite is how he interacts with the family cat, who’s been around for eight years and isn’t about to let a goofy puppy take over as “King of the House”. The creatively named “Kitty” will allow Roscoe to get just close enough to her so she can smack him. But Roscoe is smart and has learned to sneak up to her, inch by trepidatious inch, face averted, peripherally checking her out and attacking when he deems her sufficiently distracted. All he wants is to play with her, to cuddle her, or even to help her bathe herself.

Roscoe has made their family complete – until Angela is able to convince David to get another “perfect” dog!

As many of you may already know, Redtail embarked upon a journey last year with Front Street Animal Shelter to begin fostering dogs in the Sacramento area and to encourage adoption of the many wonderful pups that need to find a loving home.
